Fishing in Andorra - mountain fishing

Mountain fishing, rivers and lakes

The local rivers, streams and lakes in Andorra are divided to include areas where fishing is permitted. The brisk torrents and the serenity of the lakes make for a pleasant and remarkable fishing experience. In order to protect the environment and the populations of fish, the sport is strictly controlled, and a liscence is stricly oblogatory in all cases, but cheap and easy to get hold of.

  • Common trout (Salmo trutta fario) is present in most rivers and lakes.
  • Rainbow trout (Onchorhynchus mykiss) were introduced in the Gran Valira river and the Engolasters lake at the end of the last century.
  • The brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) was introduced into certain high mountain streams and smaller lakes

Each year a time period is defined when fishing is allowed in rivers and lakes and controlled areas. Depending on the accessibility and the state of the area, these dates can change from year to year. Fishing is only allowed during the day, being defined as sunrise to sun set.
